Herb Kirkby

Since graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1960, Herb has had an exciting career, first working as a commercial artist, then as a teacher of visual art at College Avenue Secondary School in Woodstock. He has participated in many art exhibitions throughout Ontario and the U.S.A., winning awards in watercolour, drawing, acrylics, pen and ink and photography.

Several years ago, having spent some winters in Texas, Herb was able to take courses with Dan Burt and George West.

Each spring, as a  member of the Lambeth Art Association, Herb shows his current works during their annual juried art show and sale in April, for four years receiving an honours award for his watercolours.

He is also a member of Oxford Creative Connections Inc., where his work is shown at the Elm Hurst Inn and the Woodstock General Hospital.

Herb has taken part in shows in Exeter, and at the Woodstock Art Gallery and Elizabeth’s Gallery in Goderich.

As well, Herb taught painting, drawing and various art techniques for the City of London for several years.

Herb's watercolour painting of "The Bluebird" fits the theme of "All Things Bright and Beautiful", because this beautiful bird is a favourite of many people and is eagerly awaited in the spring after a long, cold winter.  When flying overhead, its song is a soft, melodious warble: beautiful and soothing.
